OUR STORY

Acres Farm wouldn't be possible without big vision, dedication from our team members, and community support. We are more than a farm and more than a classroom. We are seeding the future and cultivating community one student at a time.

Acres is Land

Known around Warren Tech simply as "the farm," Acres Farm is situated on the grounds of the old horticultural center. The space is now home to classroom facilities, greenhouses, and farmland.

This land is where industry and education collide so that students can explore the intersections of farming, food supply chains, professional kitchens, and food access.

Acres is Community

Acres Farm started as the farm part of farm-to-table for The Squeaky Bean in Denver. As sous chef and part owner of the restaurant, Josh Olsen reached out to Warren Tech with a big vision.

Olsen saw an opportunity to revive the old horticultural program facilities and get a farm for the restaurant. He also had a vision of connecting farmers, educators, and chefs to teach students what it takes to get food from the farm to the table.

Moving on in 2021 to pursue his farming interests, Olsen made way for Stephen Cochenour to join the team as Farm Instructor.

Acres is Innovation

The future is farming. No farms, no food. And to farm, we need clean water, healthy soil, and human power. Students at acres are learning innovative techniques and approaches to urban farming and the importance of soil conservation and maintenance.

The farm boasts a hydroponic freight farm built from a recycled shipping container and a climate battery greenhouse build in partnership with the Colorado School of Mines.

Harvests include all kinds of produce: leeks, potatoes, fresh greens, garlic, squash, peppers, tomatoes, herbs, and whatever else the land, soil, water, and students can grow.
